{"id":46825,"date":"2025-03-24T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-24T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.epcsrl.eu\/?p=46825"},"modified":"2026-07-20T12:44:45","modified_gmt":"2026-07-20T10:44:45","slug":"drone-based-laser-scanning-survey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.epcsrl.eu\/en\/drone-based-laser-scanning-survey\/","title":{"rendered":"Drone-Based Laser Scanner Survey at the Former \u201cLa Vallesella\u201d Landfill: Innovation in Territorial Monitoring"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In 2024, the EPC team carried out a detailed drone-based laser scanner survey on behalf of the Municipality of San Vito di Cadore, in the Province of Belluno, at the former inert-waste landfill known as \u201cLa Vallesella\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The site is located on the left side of the Boite Valley, on the southern slopes of Mount Sorapis, and has been subject to several environmental monitoring campaigns since 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Objectives of the Laser Scanner Survey<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The main objective of the drone-based laser scanner survey was to identify any morphological changes in the site compared with previous surveys and provide high-quality data representing its current condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In particular, the survey produced:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a georeferenced three-dimensional point cloud;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a detailed site plan including three-dimensional contour lines and cross-sections.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Equipment Used: Drone and LiDAR Technology<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For the drone-based laser scanner survey, EPC selected the DJI Zenmuse L1, DJI\u2019s first LiDAR sensor integrated with the Matrice 300 RTK platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Matrice 300 RTK is a powerful industrial drone equipped with an advanced flight-control system, six-directional sensing and positioning, and an FPV camera. Accurate georeferencing of the collected data is ensured by the integrated RTK module, which provides centimetre-level positioning information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Zenmuse L1 payload combines a LiDAR module, a high-precision IMU and a camera equipped with a 20 MP CMOS sensor. The Matrice 300 RTK performed automatic periodic calibrations to ensure optimal accuracy between overlapping survey strips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Data georeferencing was further refined through the use of a ground-based GPS antenna.
