EcoMystery: education, innovation, and sustainability in action!

EcoMystery is an ambitious European project proudly coordinated by EPC S.r.l. This international initiative was developed with a clear and important objective: to bring together schools, universities and companies from five European countries to test innovative educational approaches.

By strategically combining gamification, Escape Rooms and digital tools, EcoMystery aims to engage students and teachers, encouraging discussion and concrete action on the complex issues of the climate crisis and active citizenship.

The education sector is undergoing a profound transformation, with traditional teaching methods increasingly integrating digital tools to address the challenges of our time.

The EcoMystery journey reached an important milestone on 8 and 9 May, when we enthusiastically organised the project’s first in-person gathering in Vicenza. The event marked a significant step forward for the consortium and was hosted in the dynamic and inspiring spaces of Polo Giovani B55, an ideal setting for exchanging ideas and supporting participatory planning.

Project Progress and Future Challenges

During two intensive days of work, international partners from Greece, Slovakia, Portugal and Romania came together to discuss the project’s progress and conduct an in-depth analysis of the initial data collected in the field.

The preliminary research focused on the actual educational needs of the participating territories and on the methodologies currently used to teach climate change within the pilot areas.

The findings represent a valuable and essential resource for developing the next project phases on a solid evidence-based foundation.

Over the coming months, the partnership will focus on two main areas:

  • developing and validating a dedicated training programme for teachers, providing them with new methodological skills and educational tools;
  • designing and creating innovative Escape Rooms in both digital and physical formats, specifically developed to promote problem-solving and collaborative learning among secondary-school students.

Italian Pilot Schools at the Forefront

The strength of EcoMystery lies in its ability to connect European research with the everyday reality of school classrooms.

For this reason, EPC S.r.l. involved two leading Italian educational institutions from the very beginning. They will act as pilot schools during the testing phase:

  • “Salvo D’Acquisto” Comprehensive School in Follo and Calice al Cornoviglio, Province of La Spezia;
  • “A. Fogazzaro” Comprehensive School in Noventa Vicentina, Province of Vicenza.

Special thanks go to the four teachers from the Noventa Vicentina school who actively participated in the two working days in Vicenza with enthusiasm and initiative.

Their involvement officially launched a valuable process of mutual learning, enabling direct dialogue between teaching staff and the project’s international partners.

We strongly believe that only through genuine and continuous cooperation between schools, companies, research organisations and educational communities can we help develop informed and resilient citizens who are ready to build a more sustainable future. Global change must begin with education and in the classroom.
