As part of the management and coordination of the EnCLOD project’s pilot action, a strategic initiative funded by the Interreg Central Europe Programme, EPC S.r.l. is proud to support the Province of Vicenza in close cooperation with IUAV University of Venice.
The main objective of the EnCLOD pilot action is to introduce smart technologies for territorial monitoring, representing a concrete step towards a more innovative, sustainable and collaborative approach to the management of local road infrastructure.
EnCLOD Weather Stations in the Upper Vicenza Area
Since last week, four new weather stations have been operating at strategic locations along provincial roads in the Upper Vicenza area, specifically the SP 46, SP 349 and SP 350 roads.
The environmental sensors have been installed within the municipalities of:
- Lastebasse;
- Valli del Pasubio;
- Valdastico;
- Asiago.
In addition, to maximise the impact on road safety and traffic information services, an additional information panel has been installed in the Municipality of Cogollo del Cengio.
This device will provide motorists with real-time updates on weather and road conditions.
How Do the Sensors Work and How Will the Collected Data Be Used?
The new roadside weather stations are fully energy self-sufficient, as they are powered by solar panels and integrated batteries.
The devices have been designed to continuously measure and monitor several environmental parameters, including:
- air temperature and humidity;
- road surface conditions;
- rainfall and snowfall.
Road Safety and Sustainability: The IUAV Model
The data collected by the environmental sensors are transmitted in real time and will be processed by IUAV University of Venice.
The university will use this information to develop an advanced predictive model. The system will enable the Province of Vicenza to optimise salt spreading during the winter season, significantly improving road safety as well as the economic and environmental efficiency of maintenance operations.
Transparency and Citizen Engagement Through Open Data
The EnCLOD project places considerable emphasis on information sharing. For this reason, the environmental data will soon be made available to all citizens.
The information will be accessible through an interactive Open Data map, which will be published directly on the official website of the Province of Vicenza.
