EcoMystery Launched: The Erasmus+ Project Promoting Climate Education Through Escape Rooms and Gamification

The EcoMystery project officially began on 1 December 2024. Entitled “Interactive Escape Rooms for Climate Crisis Awareness and Civic Engagement in School Education”, this Erasmus+ KA220 initiative is proudly coordinated by EPC as the lead partner.

EcoMystery aims to promote an innovative approach to climate education by using interactive and engaging teaching methodologies to raise awareness among students and teachers about the climate crisis, sustainability and active citizenship.

Objectives of the EcoMystery Project

EcoMystery will provide school communities with innovative tools designed to make learning more dynamic, participatory and relevant to the needs of younger generations.

The project’s main features include:

Introducing gamification: providing teachers with gamification-based tools and methodologies, with a particular focus on educational escape rooms, to make learning more stimulating and engaging.
Encouraging active student participation: supporting students in becoming active contributors to the development of solutions for a sustainable future, while strengthening critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork skills.
Using digital tools: integrating innovative digital resources to encourage school communities to play a proactive role in environmental action and facilitate access to interactive educational content.

Through these activities, the Erasmus+ EcoMystery project will strengthen the skills of teachers and students while increasing their awareness of the environmental, social and economic consequences of the climate crisis.

A European Partnership for Educational Innovation

In addition to EPC, the EcoMystery partnership includes two educational institutions:

Agrupamento de Escolas Dr. Correia Mateus – AECM, Portugal;
Centrul Județean de Excelență Galați, Romania.

Two small and medium-sized enterprises with specific expertise in gamification and digital education also participate in the project:

Bluechain SCE, Greece;
Social Nebula Single Member P.C., Greece.

The partnership is completed by Comenius University Bratislava in Slovakia, which will contribute to the development and validation of training materials for teachers.

The involvement of schools, innovative companies and a university will combine educational experience, technological expertise and academic research, ensuring a multidisciplinary and transnational approach.

Analysing Educational Needs in the Partner Countries

The first phase of the project, planned for early 2025, involves collecting and analysing educational needs in the participating countries.

Through interviews and focus groups, the partnership will investigate the needs of schools, teachers and students in relation to climate education and the use of innovative teaching methodologies.

This initial phase will be essential for developing training materials, digital tools and educational escape rooms adapted to different national contexts and to the practical needs of school communities.
